FAQ- Skateboarding Programs
My child has never stepped on a skateboard before. Is there a class that suits new beginners?
Certainly. Our WISE 1 class is best for those who have never stepped on a board prior to starting ,as well as advanced beginners who have been working on their skills for several months.
What do I need for my first class?
Upon arriving for your first skateboarding lesson, you will need a well fitted helmet, water, flat-soled shoes, and a skateboard (we can help with this if needed).
How long are the lessons, and how many sessions are included?
Each lesson runs for 1 hour, and our programs typically include 24 sessions.
I have two children who would like to stay together in a class. Is this possible?
Depending on their age gap, this is a possibility. Skaters that are age 3-4 are required to sign up for “Kinder Skate”. After that level, they can move into WISE 1 where we are flexible on age; skill level is the main determination on where to place a child in a class. Please reach out with more information about your children to better determine if we can accommodate.
What will my child gain from skateboarding lessons?
Beyond learning skateboarding skills, participants build confidence, resilience, and creativity. They learn how to set goals, overcome challenges, and celebrate progress in a supportive community.
How do you help kids who might feel nervous or discouraged?
We believe in positively pushing each child to reach their potential. Our coaches encourage perseverance and celebrate small wins, helping kids build resilience and confidence.
What is the minimum age requirement to join a class?
We have classes for as young as 3 years old!
Do you offer payment plans?
For our WISE 1, WISE 2 and XL classes, we offer monthly payment plans for the 3 month term. It is due the 1st of each month via e-transfer or an online invoice emailed to you. A deposit is required to secure your spot in a class, which covers your first month. Please reach out to Megan at megan@wiseskateboarding.com for more information.
What is your refund policy?
Refunds are only available 3 days prior to a new skate term beginning. Refunds and credits will not be awarded after a class has already begun, unless a special exception is made.
Where can I purchase a skateboard?
It’s best to purcahse your skateboard from a true skate shop to ensure the quality of parts is suitable. In PEI, “Town City” at 155 Queen Street, Charlottetown is your go to spot for gear and equipment. They have “completes” that are set up and ready to purchase for all ages/sizes.
Does my child need to wear protective gear?
Wearing protective pads is beneficial for youth to lessen the pain of falling (and we do fall everyday!). However, it is personal preference for the skater to wear them.
Helmets are mandatory for youth under age 18.
Do you provide boards to use during a class?
We have plenty of boards available in a variety of sizes for use during your class. Everyone is welcome to use them at any time.
Are there opportunities to compete?
Wise Skateboarding hosts 2 competitions annually, in the spring and the end of the summer.
We also offer tiered classes and competition training for children interested.
Where are you located?
We have a small indoor training facility in Stratford, PE. The address is 45 Hollis Avenue. In the spring and summer, we often move our lessons outside to our local skatepark in Stratford to bring versatility to our skate environment.
We’re moving to a larger space in Charlottetown for early 2026.
Disciplinary:
Our instructors work to keep the environment in the park safe, friendly and respectful. Disruptive behaviour from any participant will not be tolerated. Harassment, inappropriate language or bullying of any kind is unacceptable. Our coaches set clear boundaries and expectations as to appropriate conduct and should action need to be taken due to a child’s continuous interruptions of the positive atmosphere or ongoing disregard for the rules, parents will be notified. Disruptive behaviour will be documented and if continued may result in dismissal from the program. We ask for your cooperation in providing a positive experience for all members.
